NEWS

GreenTech creates environmentally friendly products that improve the health and quality of life for people throughout the world. As part of that mission, we are honored to partner with #MakeMamaProudTN of East Tennessee. (No, we’re not talking about your mama – she’s already proud of you – we’re talking about the biggest mother of them all – Mother Earth! And she needs our help.)

#MakeMamaProudTN puts it this way: “The world’s coming loose at the seams and it’s happening faster than a hot knife through butter. Oceans full of plastic, devastating floods, heat waves hotter than blue blazes, and droughts so bad the trees are bribing dogs. The earth’s in crisis baby, and it can’t continue. Making good choices isn’t all or nothing—anything you do to help is a step in the right direction. Take the pledge, share it with your friends and family, and do your part in this movement to reduce, reuse, and recycle. I’m counting on you sugar, so go on and Make Mama Proud.”

Their mantra is, “even small changes can make a huge impact.” That’s where GreenTech Environmental comes in. Not only are all of our products designed to be safe for the environment, but some of our products are designed to help reduce waste and save or planet, one household at a time.

In honor of Earth Day (officially celebrated on April 22, but should be celebrated every day!), and #MakeMamaProudTN, we are excited to feature our pureWash Pro X2 and pureAir FRIDGE products.

pureWash

pureWash Pro X2 transforms your washing machine into a superpowered sanitizing system! Our advanced technology uses 100% safe, natural oxidation plus cold water to dissolve and remove residue and clean, sanitize, and deodorize your entire laundry, no detergent required. That’s because pureWash Pro X2 brings large scale hospital technology into your home in an affordable, compact and easily installed system. In fact, like magic your pureWash Pro X2 pays for itself in as little as 8 months!

Let’s look at laundry by the numbers:

  • The average family of four does 8 loads of laundry each week and laundry accounts for 21% of household water usage (TheSpruce).

With an average of over $500 savings per year, mama wants a new pair of shoes!

Laundry Savings with pureWash

Not only does pureWash have the power to clean and disinfect all types of laundry, the hose attachment can be used to create water that is charged with active oxygen to deep clean and disinfect all surfaces, without harsh chemicals.

Using the power of nature’s own oxidizers to clean your clothes you eliminate up to 99.99% of bacteria, reduce your reliance on hot water and detergent, and make your clothes last longer – saving you money with every wash. That makes mama proud.

Normal use of detergents can pollute wastewater leaving your home. Using pureWash Pro X2 and less detergent you are removing pollutants and adding oxygen to the wastewater, which helps the environment… and that will #MakeMamaProudTN.

Cleaner, Fresher, Fluffier, Odor Free Laundry that also help our Earth – yes please!

pureAir FRIDGE

Small but mighty, pureAir FRIDGE gives you a continuous clean, behind closed doors. The average family of four wastes around $1500 per year in decaying food that gets thrown out. Now you have the genius to fight back against food waste!

pureAir FRIDGE extends the life of your fruits and vegetables by up to 3x and removes embarrassing odors by sanitizing and purifying the air within your refrigerator by reducing ethylene gas from decaying food. Replicating what nature does outdoors through hydrogen and oxygen-based oxidizers, pureAir FRIDGE destroys bacteria such as E-coli and Staphylococcus, and even neutralizes pesticides. Activated oxygen and negative ion charges are propelled into the fridge to destroy odors and other contaminants, all while behind closed doors.

pureAir FRIDGE is simple to use, maintain and clean. It charges in less than 4 hours to provide purifying power to your fridge up to four weeks (charging cable included). Plus, pureAir FRIDGE is as small as an apple, so it can be placed anywhere in your refrigerator.

FRIDGE has already helped to reduce millions of dollars in annual food waste. For just $49 you too can extend the life of your produce and stop buying all that baking soda. You’ll #MakeMamaProudTN.

With a longer shelf life for your produce, no more reliance on baking soda and fewer trips to the grocery store, you’ll also save time and money – which makes Mama proud.

After a wonderful weekend with friends, family, and fun, my husband and I were abruptly awoken by our 7-year-old son vomiting violently from the top of his bunk bed. All parents know that sound. It startles you immediately from your sleep and a wave of anxiety hits you like a dagger. Not only will you spend the next several hours holding your sick child, but your mind is overcome with the thought of how to contain this miserable virus from the rest of your family.

After jumping quickly out of bed, my husband and I both went about our duties:

Running a bath for the sick child
Stripping the bed
Soaking up stains
Shampooing the carpet
Gathering all infected clothes, blankets, and towels
Spraying down all infected surfaces
Up until a few years ago, I would get all of these clothes, blankets, and pillows into the laundry and assume that they would come out virus and bacteria-free. Surely they were safe to handle after washing in an $800 washing machine! But here are the facts. Hot water and detergent alone DO NOT kill bacteria and viruses.

Feeling sick to your stomach yet? Well here’s the good news. There is a way to clean your clothes using your current washing machine that will actually kill the bacteria and viruses. That way is pureWash. Using a natural disinfectant called ozone, pureWash cleans and sterilizes your clothes better than bleach without adding chemicals to your clothing. When you use cold water and pureWash, your washing machine becomes a powerful purifying machine. And I’m not talking just about clothes and blankets. pureWash Pro has a port where you can use the ozone-infused water to spray down surfaces, add to your carpet shampoo, and even clean the laundry basket you carried everything to the laundry room in.

It’s days like today that make me so thankful that I have a pureWash Pro. As I sit here listening to my washing machine running, I know that those blankets, clothes, and towels are coming out virus-free… and for any mother, that brings enough peace of mind to make it through another day.

Since the invention of detergent, the industry focus has been on what best removes stains and brightens colors, leading to the increase of synthetic cleaners, chemicals, and brighteners, and fragrances that can be found in almost all laundry detergent today. Meanwhile, the idea that clean clothing should be free of toxic chemicals and bacteria has been ignored, and the idea that these detergent chemicals are harmful to our health has not been effectively addressed.

What is the history of laundry detergent?
Laundry detergent, as we know it, has been around since the time of WWII. Before then, people would wash their clothes using soap flakes. However, these soap flakes would leave a nasty ring in the washtub, and clothes came out dingy and dull. Set out to find a better way, researchers started finding other options for cleaning clothes and quickly discovered synthetic surfactants, which can remove dirt and grease from clothing and suspend them in the air so that they cannot reattach to the fibers. From this discovery came the modern laundry detergent formula.

So what is in today’s laundry detergents?
Let’s go over the top 4 toxic ingredients that can be found in almost all detergents:

Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS):
SLS actually damages your skin by stripping it of protective oils and moisture. According to the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep: Cosmetic Safety Reviews, research studies on SLS have shown links to:

Irritation of the skin and eyes
Organ toxicity
Developmental/reproductive toxicity
Neurotoxicity, endocrine disruption, ecotoxicology, and biochemical or cellular changes
Possible mutations and cancer
1,4 Dioxane:
Dioxane is a byproduct of an industrial process used to make cleaning ingredients. It is considered by the state of California to cause cancer and has been found by the CDC to be potentially toxic to your brain and central nervous system, kidneys, liver, and respiratory system. The National Institute of Health (NIH) confirms that dioxane is “reasonably expected to be a human carcinogen” based on the research today, and even trace amounts bring cause for concern.

NPE (nonylphenol ethoxylate):
NPE is an endocrine disruptor and estrogen mimicker that can potentially cause hormonal problems or even cancer. When you absorb NPE, your body can’t tell the difference between NPE and estrogen. Organisms exposed to NPE show kidney and liver damage, decreased testicular growth and sperm count, disrupted growth and metabolism, and increased mortality.

Artificial fragrances:
Artificial fragrances found in laundry detergent are made up of a combination of manufactured chemical compounds. Fragrance makers use more than 5,000 different ingredients. Of these, only about 1,300 fragrance ingredients have actually been tested and evaluated. These chemicals, which include fragrances, cause a variety of negative reactions, including: exhaustion, weakness, “hay fever” symptoms, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, confusion, headaches, rashes, swollen lymph glands, muscle aches and spasms, heart palpitations, nausea, stomach cramps, vomiting, asthma attacks (inability to breathe), neuromotor dysfunction, seizures, and even loss of consciousness. Babies and children are even more vulnerable to these negative health reactions than are adults. The elderly and people trying to recover from cancer and other serious illnesses are particularly at risk when exposed.

Our skin is the largest organ of the body. Chemicals that are exposed to skin absorb directly into the bloodstream. A good rule for protecting your body from these chemicals is by deciding that if you wouldn’t eat or drink it, you won’t expose it to your skin either.

What about Eco-Friendly Detergent?
The rise of eco-friendly detergents has attempted to provide a healthier solution. Unfortunately, some of these detergents are being exposed for deceptively listing their ingredients, which include SLS among other chemicals. One example is Jessica Alba’s Honest Company. Additionally, the eco-friendly detergents lack in their ability to kill germs and bacteria, especially those that wash using cold water.

So what is the solution to a healthy laundry?
pureWash Pro is the solution that truly offers a laundry FREE from chemicals while still providing clean clothes. pureWash Pro is the natural way to thoroughly eliminate odors, bacteria, germs, and organic stains from your clothing. The power of ozone is nature’s way of disinfecting and sanitizing, and it’s now available for your laundry through pureWash Pro.

pureWash Pro is the newest way to clean your clothes using little or no detergent at all. So you’re probably asking yourself how this happens. What is this ozone that we keep talking about, and how is it a smarter way to clean clothes?

What is Ozone?
Ozone, (O3), sometimes called “activated oxygen”, contains three atoms of oxygen rather than the two atoms we normally breathe. Ozone is the second most powerful sterilizer in the world and can be used to destroy bacteria, viruses, and odors. Ozone occurs quite readily in nature, most often as a result of lightning strikes that occur during thunderstorms. In fact, the “fresh, clean, spring rain” smell that we notice after a storm most often results from nature’s creation of ozone.

How does ozone work?
The third oxygen atom of ozone makes it extremely reactive. This atom readily attaches itself to other odor molecules. When contaminants such as odors, bacteria or viruses make contact with ozone, their chemical structure is changed to less odorous compounds. As more ozone attacks the remaining compounds, the odor is eventually destroyed. This process is called oxidation. Ozone reverts back to oxygen after it is used, making it a very environmentally friendly oxidant.

Why shouldn’t we wash with detergents?
In the traditional laundry process, excessive chemicals and hot water are used causing the wash water to become very damaging to your clothes. Most detergent companies will tell you this is done to help swell the fibers of the cloth to release the dirt. What they don’t tell you is the extremely damaging effects this has on the fabric. Additionally, detergent and hot water alone will not kill bacteria that harbor in your clothing. Finally, these detergent chemicals build up and remain in your clothing and the wash water, making them your laundry unhealthy for you and the environment.

How does ozone kill bacteria?
A healthy bacterial cell thrives by maintaining an intact cell wall. When an ozone molecule comes into contact with a cell wall, it penetrates the wall, creating a tiny hole and injuring the bacterial cell. Once that happens, the bacterial cell begins to lose its shape as more ozone molecules continue creating holes in the cell wall. After thousands of holes are created, the bacterial wall can no longer maintain its shape and the cell dies.

Why is ozone so amazing?
Because of its powerful oxidation properties, ozone dissolves soil on contact and does so at cold water temperatures, instead of conventional 140-160 degrees. This drastically reduces heating costs. Additionally, the EPA and FDA have acknowledged that ozone is capable of reducing pathogenic bacterial levels on clothing by 99.9992%.

Will ozone get rid of stains?
Ozone removes organic stains from clothing through the oxidation process, but it is not the answer to all stains. Occasionally, some clothes have heavier stains from lipstick, nail polish, food, wine, oil, or grease. Because ozone uses only cold water, it is not suited to perform well on these types of stains because of the physical nature of oil at low temperatures. Just like when using laundry detergent, pre-treating tough stains, or soaking in hot water is a must. For most clothes that only need to be washed to remove body odors or freshen up, ozone cleans more efficiently and much better than with detergent.

Is ozone safe for me and my family?
Because ozone is an organic molecule that is completely biodegradable, it reverts back to oxygen as soon as it completes its objective, leaving absolutely no chemical residue behind. The life span of ozone in this use is about 20 minutes, so by the time the wash cycle is complete, the ozone will have completely dissipated. Even if you were to come into contact with the ozone-infused water, you have no need for concern. The ozone is safe if used correctly. Only extreme High concentrations of ozone can cause health problems if proper safety measures are not taken, but the level of ozone used in the laundry process is far below the safety guidelines outlined by the EPA, FDA, and OSHA standards.

Has ozone been used in the laundry before?
For over 20 years, hospitals, hotels, and sports centers have used ozone to clean their laundry. As you can imagine, these types of facilities rely on a hygienically clean environment to prevent viruses, mold, and bacteria that can easily spread through the laundry process. Since their laundry volume is so high, they use commercial ozone laundry systems that cost thousands of dollars and take up large rooms. pureWash Pro takes the same technology used by these commercial systems and applies it to a residential environment with a unit that will fit into your home laundry room and cost so little that it pays for itself within a year.

pureWash Pro was invented by Allen Johnston, who has received the patent on using this technology in a residential laundry system.

My family of four just had an amazing pureWash experience and I wanted to share. We are currently shopping for a “new to us” used van. Last Saturday night, we headed down to the local dealership to test drive a van that had just come in from another lot. When we initially got in, we noticed it smelled funny but didn’t realize until we were getting out of the vehicle that it had a serious mold problem. The seat belt on our three-year-old daughter was covered in mold (it was dark outside, so didn’t see that till too late). Her shirt had mold all over it! I was completely disgusted and sick about it. Fortunately, I had another shirt for her with me, so I took it off and we quickly scooted off to the bathroom to wash off.

From my time working with the pureWash team, I am fully aware that pureWash Pro has been laboratory tested and proven to kill 99.9% of bacteria and mold, but I’ve never experienced it personally. After all, I’m the kind of mom that really works hard to keep our environment as clean as possible. I quickly realized this was a great opportunity to really put our pureWash Pro to the test, so I decided to take her shirt and rub it into that moldy seat belt to get as much mold on it as possible. Yuck! It was covered in black from the mold. Then, I placed it in a trash bag and took it home. I washed it in pureWash only – no detergent because I really wanted to see how it would do on its own. When it came out, I was so thrilled! No black – anywhere. Perfectly white again and it smelled so fresh and clean. This was after it had been left in the washing machine all night (since I can never seem to stay awake late enough to take my laundry out right when it’s done). I can honestly say that I felt completely confident that it was mold-free, healthy, safe, and clean for my daughter to wear again.

This is the reason I’m so glad that I have pureWash in my laundry. Detergent does not clean bacteria and molds. Most people wash in hot water with bleach, which is harsh on your clothes and harmful to your body and the environment. With the number of bacteria, viruses, and mold in the air, people should WANT to do everything they can to protect themselves and their families. pureWash Pro is the BEST solution. This experience made me more confident and I am so glad that I have pureWash purifying my clothes.
